17-Year-Old Kenyan Girl Raped By 3 Men She Met On Facebook After Traveling 210kms

A teenage girl and her mother are crying for justice after the minor was allegedly defiled by three men in early June.

The distraught mother, who hails from Homa Bay County, said her 17-year-old daughter, who lives with her aunt in Mbita, called on Friday, June 5 to say she would be visiting her (mother) later that day.

“When I called her later Friday to inquire why she had taken long to arrive home, she said I shouldn’t worry, and that she’d be home soon. In the evening, her phone line was unreachable. I did not know where she had gone to, or what had happened to her,” said the mother.

On Tuesday, June 9, she received a call from Mbale Police Station asking her to go to the station because her daughter was seriously ill.

“I was shocked; I did not know how she got to Mbale in Vihiga County, a place that I, personally, had never set foot in. I was told that she met one of her defilers on Facebook.”

In her police report, the girl said she met one of the defilers — identified only as Vincent — on Facebook. She said he had invited her to his home in Mbale, a distance of 210 kilometers from Mbita.

“He told me to use my money to travel to his place, and that he will refund once I get there,” she said.

In Mbale, her host Vincent allegedly sexually assaulted her and kicked her out without giving her money to travel back home.

“While stranded, I met a boda boda rider, who promised to provide me with shelter for the night. He said that the following day, he will take me to Kisumu, where I will board a bus home. He took me to a lodging facility in Kakamega, where he defiled and stole my phone.

“On returning to Mbale, I met another man, who took me to Vincent’s place. We found the door had been locked. The then-curfew deadline of 7 pm had passed. So, the man told me he would take me to his place, where I would spend the night. While at his home, he defiled me and kicked me out the following morning,” recounted the girl as quoted by K24 Digital.

The victim said a female Good Samaritan helped her seek medical treatment and file a report at Mbale Police Station on June 10.

She said despite knowing where her Facebook friend lives, she does not know his full name.

“I met the man on Facebook. His first name is Vincent, and the surname indicates he is of Luhya ethnicity. He invited me to Mbale, Vihiga County so that I know where he stays — Hekima area. I usually stay with my aunt. I told her that I was going to pay mum a visit and return on Sunday, June 14,” she said.

“I want this case to be pursued to the end. The men hurt me,” she added.

She identified her last defiler as one Davies, who “lives near Mbale High School”.

One of the suspects, David Nyangweso, has since been arrested and arraigned. He is being held in custody as investigations into the matter continue.

The girl sat her KCPE exams in 2017 and was staying with her aunt after failing to secure secondary school admission.

Ex Oyo Governor, Ajimobi To Be Buried Tomorrow

The late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi will be buried tomorrow, Friday 26th June 2020.

The 70-year-old, who had been on a life support machine since last Friday at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, after slipping into a coma following Coronavirus complications, finally reported died on Thursday.

Ajimobi, who was governor from 2011 to 2019, was named the Acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) last week but never resumed.

Photo Of ABU Lecturer Shot Dead On Katsina-Zamfara Road

A lecturer with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Dr. Mohammad Bello Hassan was yesterday, shot dead along Katsina-Zamfara road.

Dr. Mohammad Bello Hassan who is from the Department of Agricultural Economics, Institute for Agricultural Research, ABU, Zaria, was murdered by armed bandits on his way back from Zamfara on an official engagement.

Dr. MB Hassan, as he was popularly known, was an alumnus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa where he did his PhD. in Agricultural Economics.

Dr. Hassan has been described as a kind, humble, hardworking, and open person who is loved by his students and colleagues alike.

According to sheriff Issa Iyanda, who was supervised by Dr. M.B Hassan during his project, “if anyone of us know this man, you will never wish him death if you’re a rational being. May Allah in His infinite mercy should forgive his shortcomings and reward him with al-Jannah Firdaus.”

“The last assignment I did before leaving Nigeria was together with him. The Institute (IAR) was called upon by KNARDA to train its newly employed agricultural extension agents in the state.

“He was our Team leader and we travelled to Kadawa to conduct the training. The training took place in May 2018 and I left Nigeria in June 2018. We (public servant especially in the Agric field) constantly put our lives at risk in the conduct of our duties.

“I can’t count how many times I have traveled to remote areas in North-West, North-East, and North-Central to establish experiments, collect data, or to meet farmers. I once returned home (Zaria) from Nasarawa state in the middle of the night.

“We don’t want accolades, but we pray that those whose responsibility it is to provide security do so. Isn’t the bloodshed not enough? It might not matter to you, but investors at home and abroad who know MB Hassan, will certainly feel bad and be discouraged from ever returning!! Who are we making all the infrastructures for, when there is no one to enjoy them?

“We will all die one day and on that, we are all helpless. His death couldn’t have been delayed by a fraction of a second. His time was up and such was the way Allah has destined he will leave the world; in the brutal hands of armed bandits/kidnappers. He can never be replaced as we have seen from the brutal murder of Professor AM Falaki.”

In his tribute, Aliyu Ammani wrote: “We’re ultimately leaving this world. We first met many years ago when I returned to my alma mater to salvage what remained of a post-graduate programme I abandoned some 7 years earlier.

“He was then staff in training, we became course mates, friends. When I transferred my services to my alma mater, our paths continue to cross especially when he was Head of the Extension Unit of the Institute for Agricultural Research.

“Our last joint assignment, still ongoing, was the task of teaching the undergraduate course AGEC 413 in the now protracted first semester of this academic session.

“This afternoon, just before zuhr prayers, I received the shocking sad news that this fine gentleman and resourceful academic was murdered in cold blood by armed bandits while on assignment in Zamfara State yesterday the 23rd of June 2020.

“This is a great loss to IAR, FOA, and the entire ABU Community.”

Dr MB Hassan was buried earlier today according to Islamic rites.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannahtul Firdausi and give the family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.
